đ Ingredients
For the dough:
-
3 cups wheat flour
-
1 egg
-
1 teacup of milk
-
1 teacup of vegetable oil
-
1 tablespoon of vinegar
-
1 pinch of salt
-
Water as needed
-
Starch for rolling (corn or wheat starch)
For the filling:
-
1.5 cups finely chopped walnuts (alternatively: pistachios)
For the syrup:
-
3 cups of sugar
-
2.5 cups of water
-
A few drops of lemon juice
For the topping:
-
150â200 grams of butter
-
Optional: 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil (to prevent the butter from burning)
đŠđł Preparation
1. Prepare the dough
Place the flour in a bowl and make a well in the center. Add the egg, milk, oil, vinegar, salt, and gradually the water. Knead to form a soft, non-sticky dough. Cover and let rest for 20â30 minutes.
2. Divide into portions
Divide the dough into 12â20 small balls. The more balls, the finer the layers.
3. Unroll
Roll each ball of dough out very thinly with cornstarch â so thin that you can almost see through it. Cover the dough sheets in the meantime to prevent them from drying out.
4. Layers
Grease a baking tin. Layer half of the pastry sheets in the tin, sprinkling walnuts between each layer. Then place the remaining pastry sheets on top.
5. Slice & add butter
Cut into classic baklava diamond shapes. Pour melted butter evenly over the pastry.
6. Baking
Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for approximately 45â50 minutes, until the surface is golden brown.
7. Prepare the syrup
Boil sugar and water in a pot for 10 minutes. Add lemon juice, boil for another 2-3 minutes and remove from heat.
8. Pour syrup over the pastries
Let the baklava rest for 10 minutes after baking. Then pour the lukewarm syrup over it. Alternatively: serve cold pastries with hot syrup.
